Research & Development
RD&E is a core pillar of NSW Wine’s strategy to help the industry address challenges that arise, as well guiding its growth and direction.
In 2021 NSW Wine hosted an innovation for the industry to identify its key areas of priority that can be addressed by research and development. The forum focus was to;
Guide future research, development, extension and adoption in the NSW wine industry
Stimulate partnerships across industry, research and government, and inform funding decisions
Document the priorities of the NSW wine industry
Drive renewed industry involvement in research, development and adoption
Maintain NSW as a leading state for wine industry research
Create an innovative environment within the NSW wine industry
Provide NSW Wine with the ability to quickly respond to research opportunities and funding announcements
The output from the innovation forum was the NSW Wine Industry RDE&A Prospectus, a series of project proposals for applied research to drive outcomes and impacts across the NSW wine industry. The three focus areas for the 2021/22 RDE&A Prospectus are biosecurity, renewal and sustainability.

Research & Development
NSW DPIRD and NSW Wine have an established partnership, supported two NSW DPIRD Viticulture Development Officers, to assist the development and growth of the NSW wine industry.
Two NSW DPIRD Viticulture Development Officers are deployed annually in NSW to support the wine industry - with set criteria, objectives and outcomes. The Greater NSW and Riverina Regional Program is a five year $875,000 program funded from industry grape and wine levies via Wine Australia. Both programs are developed annually in partnership with NSW DPIRD and delivered by NSW DPIRD Viticulture Development Officers.
The focus of these two programs is to improve regional competitiveness and sustainability through extending research into adoption by industry. It is delivered via trials, workshops, in field demonstrations and extensions materials.
