Whilst a lot of the Murray Darling wine region falls within the state of Victoria, a significant section lies within New South Wales. The first grape varieties were planted in 1888 and it has since flourished into an exciting region renowned for affordable quality wines.
The region is well-known for its Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot but it is also gaining a growing reputation for new and emerging varieties including Sangiovese, Tempranillo, Nero d'Avola, Pinot Gris, Fiano and Vermentino. In fact, if you visit Mildura in November you will find the Australian Alternative varieties Wine Show and experience a unique wine show highlighting emerging or alternative wines.
Of course, the relatively warm climate of the Murray Darling wine region makes trips here pleasant all year round!
